Please join us on January 29 for Veatch Sunday, a beloved and long standing Shelter Rock tradition. Veatch Sunday offers a wonderful opportunity to hear directly from one of our over 180 Veatch grantees. This year, the Veatch Board of Governors is excited to welcome Dorian Warren, co-president of Veatch grantee, Community Change, to deliver a sermon titled, “From the Ground Up: Building Our Multiracial Democracy.”
Dorian will speak about the ideals of our multiracial democracy—and how grassroots organizations like Community Change help build and support such a democracy. Dorian leads one of our country’s most visionary institutions advocating for racial equity, worker rights, and social transformation. A nationally recognized organizer, scholar, and commentator on public affairs, Dorian is also co-chair of the Economic Security Project and co-host of System Check, a podcast for The Nation. Through its 125 affiliates across the country, Community Change is building the leadership and power of vulnerable and low-income people, particularly in communities of color.
Community Change co-founded the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), made up of 40 organizations fighting for a just immigration system. It is also deeply engaged in efforts to end poverty, and is fighting to institutionalize a guaranteed income in the United States. Under Dorian’s leadership, Community Change is galvanizing support for Black-led organizations and promoting the leadership development of women of color.
After the sermon, please join us for lunch sponsored by the Veatch Board of Governors. We will be enjoying delicious Greek food. Then, we will be able to continue the conversation with Dorian during our Veatch Annual Meeting. Please join us for this very special dialogue, which will provide another wonderful opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the important work of Community Change.
