Community Based Events and Programs
Shelter Rock is a multigenerational congregation, embracing people of all ages - children, youth and adults. We offer an array of programs intended to nurture and promote a sense of community and congregational cohesiveness. Fun and fellowship and small group sharing are as essential to our communal life as are worship and religious education.

WHO ARE WE?
Interweave is a standing committee of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and heterosexual people at he Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock (UUCSR). We have the two-fold purpose of welcoming GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered) individuals and couples to worship and find community with us here at UUCSR, and of providing them a safe, accepting, embracing, comfortable environment where they can find and build a spiritual home for themselves and make their religious journey in communion with us.HOW DO WE DO THIS?
UUCSR's Interweave Committee is a very active programming committee within the congregation. Our program creates opportunities to interact with other UUCSR members and the wider community. We also schedule special topic seminars on GLBT issues. Topics have included gay youth; hate crimes; and creating a "Safe Congregation" environment for GLBT families. In November 2009 we began a UUA (Unitarian Universalist Association) sponsored program called "Living the Welcoming Congregation". The program will take approximately 16-24 months to complete. It involves 13 sessions that focus on various aspects of oppression; issues surrounding being "out" in our society; creating change within the congregation; what it means to be transgendered; and the role internalized homophobia plays in our lives.
In June, we march in the Long Island Pride Parade in Huntington behind the UUCSR banner. Once a year we plan a GLBT themed Sunday service, working with the ministers and choir. This annual service is always very well attended.
